Our Process

Our focus on quality shapes the way we work and serves our clients well. We are selective about the work we take on, which allows us to dedicate a principal-directed design team to each project and lead a process that is structured and proven to ensure success. We take a measured approach in which each design decision builds on the last to create a home as functional as it is beautiful. We also bring business acumen and clarity to the many business details essential to success—from construction bidding and negotiations to contracts and scheduling.

Programming

We begin by determining the basic “program” of your project. This includes a complete inventory of the types and quality of living spaces together with a design schedule and initial project budget. We also assess site benefits and limitations, municipal approval expectations and code requirements.

Floor Plans + Elevations

Floor plans are the first step in translating your program into your home’s design. The next step, often called building elevations or facades, adds another dimension in bringing your project to life.

Visuals

We use the latest 3-D visualization technology in every phase of design. Digital models of our work enable you to better envision your new home. Our embrace of technology allows us to analyze and resolve complex building design considerations early on, in the office, dramatically improving building performance and avoiding construction errors and waste.

Interior Details

Once we have completed the design, we develop unique details that add richness and character to our homes.

Master Craftsmen and Artisans

Knowing that we cannot be masters of every medium, we enlist true masters—including artists, blacksmiths, sculptors, cabinetmakers and painters— to further elevate the unique details of our work. This collaboration allows us to control our design fees while adding exclusive character to our homes.

Engineering, Permitting + Competitive Bidding

We coordinate consulting engineering and develop the plans required for municipal approvals. Often, we concurrently expand our plans to give contractors the level of detail needed to ensure that our clients receive a true apples-to-apples comparison in the competitive bidding process.

Construction Administration

We stay engaged and involved throughout construction, answering inevitable questions and providing the additional information needed to maintain a smooth construction process.
